Ortho Phenyl Phenol (OPP) Market Strategic Outlook

Overview

The Ortho Phenyl Phenol (OPP) is widely used in disinfectants industry, material preservation industry and flame retardants industry. As to the orthophenyl phenol (OPP) downstream application, disinfectants industry is its largest downstream market, with more than 60% of the consumption in 2015. According to the different synthesis process, orthophenyl phenol (OPP) is divided into chlorobenzene synthesis OPP and cyclohexanone synthesis OPP. Ortho-phenyl phenol and its water-soluble salt, sodium ortho-phenylphenate (SOPP), are antimicrobial agents used as bacteriostats, fungicides, and sanitizers. OPP's production volume has increased significantly since from 2006. In addition to the fixed capacity, with the 99.9% above purity, OPP product quality has been the most desirable in the globe via a successful technical revolution in 2012.

Product type & Competitive analysis

Chlorobenzene Synthesis OPP and Cyclohexanone Synthesis OPP is the sub segment of Ortho Phenyl Phenol (OPP). In order to synthesize chlorobenzene, the go-to method on large scales is to take benzene and react it with molecular chlorine in the presence of an iron (III) chloride (FeCl3) catalyst. The nice thing about this reaction is benzene, chlorine, and FeCl3 are all extremely cheap, abundant starting materials and that helps in keeping the commercial cost of chlorobenzene low to consumers and researchers. One of the most important properties of chlorobenzene is its polarity. Since chlorine is more electronegative than carbon, chlorobenzene is polar, with chlorine bearing a partial negative charge and carbon being partially positive.

Cyclohexanone was readily condensed to form 2-(1-cyclohexen-1-yl) cyclohexanone (abbreviated as dimer) with high selectivity (96mol%, 54% conversion of Cyclohexanone) in the presence of a mineral acid. Concentrated HCl was the best catalyst, when such factors as separation and purification of the dimer from the reaction mixture were considered. OPP was formed by dehydrogenation of the dimer in high yields with a Pt-KOH-γ-Al2O3 catalyst at 350°C. The life of the catalyst was examined, and the selectivity for OPP was found to be -95% with 100% dimer conversion even after a period of more than 800 hours. A route for the formation of reaction products in the dehydrogenation of the dimer has been proposed.

Application & Regional analysis

Study indicates that Ortho Phenyl Phenol (OPP) is divided into three applications which are disinfectants, material preservation, and flame retardants. Disinfectants are antimicrobial agents. For destroying microorganisms that are living on the objects, the disinfectants are applied to the surface of non-living objects. All microorganisms which is not necessarily kill by the disinfection, especially microorganisms like resistant bacterial spores; it is less effective than sterilization, which is an ultimate chemical and physical process that kills all kinds of life. For stopping the decay of library materials through the administration of storage methods and housing of materials, the Preservation process is captured and used for it and same for the environment, prevention of theft, handling practices etc. Flame retardants refer to a variation of substances that are added to flammable materials to avoid fires from starting or to slow circulate of fire and offer additional getaway time. The flame retardant is term which refers to a function.

Geographically, the Ortho Phenyl Phenol (OPP) is divided into United States, China, Europe, Japan, Southeast Asia, and India. At present, the OPP industry concentration is high. Manufacturers have a strong bargaining power. Europe is the world's largest production areas. Europe is the world's largest consumer market. Europe holds around 35% of the global consumption market share of OPP in 2017. At the same time, the price of cyclohexanone is also in the low position. Starting in 2025, the price of cyclohexanone began to rise. At the same time, the entire industry supply in a very tense state. Some orders are backlogged. With attractive quality and competitive price, OPP product are exported to many countries and areas including Japan, Korea, South Africa, America, Germany, Poland, Taiwan and so on. Greater Britain, the United States, Canada and other countries allow the use of OPP fruit range. OPP and its sodium salt may also be used as an antiseptic in cosmetics, wood, leather, and paper fibers. OPP and dye carrier can be used as a water-soluble salt of polyester fibers, polyvinyl chloride may also be used, such as polyester dyed using a carrier when a carrier.
